Frequently asked questions
Answers about Kunshort AppLinks: how device routing picks a store, what desktop and in-app browser visitors see, printing and sizing QR codes, what data is and isn’t collected, and the limits worth knowing before you print.
Basics
What is a smart app link?
A smart app link is a single short URL that detects the visitor’s device and forwards them to the correct destination — Google Play on Android, the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPad, and a preview page with both options everywhere else. Instead of pasting two store URLs and asking people to pick, you share one link that always resolves to something installable.
Do I need an account to create a link?
No. Enter your app name and at least one store URL, and your smart link plus its QR code are generated immediately. There is no signup, no email confirmation, no credit card, and no trial that expires.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Creating links, resolving them, and downloading the high-resolution QR code are all free, with no watermark on the QR image and no cap on how many times a link can be opened.
How long does a link stay active?
Links do not expire on a timer. Once created, a short link keeps resolving so anything you have already printed or published stays valid.
Can I use it if my app is only on one store?
Yes. One store URL is enough. Visitors on the platform you support go straight to that store, and visitors on the other platform land on the preview page rather than hitting a dead end — useful while a second version is still in review.
Routing & devices
How does the link know which store to open?
When the short link is opened, the request is resolved on our server and the browser’s User-Agent header is inspected before any page is sent back. iPhone, iPad, and iPod signatures route to your App Store URL; Android signatures route to your Google Play URL. Because the decision happens server-side, the visitor never sees an intermediate page flash before the redirect.
What happens on a desktop browser?
Desktop and any other non-mobile visitor is shown the link’s preview page instead of being redirected. That page carries your app name, a button for each store you supplied, and a scannable QR code — so someone reading on a laptop can move to their phone in one scan rather than losing the link.
What if someone opens the link inside Instagram, TikTok, or another in-app browser?
In-app browsers still send a User-Agent that identifies the underlying operating system, so routing works the same way: an Instagram browser on Android is still Android. This is exactly the case where a smart link earns its keep, because pasting two raw store URLs into a social bio is not an option.
Will the link open my app directly if it is already installed?
The link forwards to the store listing, and the store app takes over from there — on a device that already has your app installed, the listing shows an “Open” button. Routing straight into a specific in-app screen requires a Universal Link or App Link configuration on your own domain, which is a separate setup from store routing.
Does the redirect hurt my SEO or my app store ranking?
No. The short link is a plain server-side redirect and is excluded from indexing, while the human-readable preview page at /link/<code> is indexable and carries your app name, description, and structured data. Store rankings are computed by Apple and Google from store-side signals and are unaffected by how a visitor arrived.
QR codes
Is the QR code free to use in print?
Yes. Every link comes with a downloadable, high-resolution PNG with no watermark and no attribution requirement. Use it on flyers, packaging, business cards, roll-up banners, conference badges, slides, or product manuals.
Can I put my logo in the middle of the QR code?
Yes. The standalone QR generator lets you drop a logo into the centre of the code. QR symbols carry error correction, so a modest centre logo stays scannable — keep it under roughly a fifth of the width and test a printed proof before a large run.
How small can I print the QR code?
As a working rule, a QR code should be at least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 in) for a code scanned from arm’s length, and scale up roughly one centimetre of width for every 10 cm of extra scanning distance. Always leave a clear quiet zone around the code and keep strong contrast between the modules and the background.
If I reprint, do I need a new QR code?
No — the QR code encodes the short link, not the store URL, so the printed artwork stays correct as long as the link exists. That indirection is the main reason to point print material at a smart link rather than at a raw store URL.
Privacy & data
What data do you collect about people who click?
The redirect reads the User-Agent header to choose a destination and does not set tracking cookies, build advertising profiles, or fingerprint visitors. See the privacy policy for the full description of what is stored.
Who can see the links I create?
Links are unlisted rather than secret: anyone holding the short code can open it, but per-link preview pages are deliberately kept out of the sitemap and are not published in any public directory. Treat a smart link as shareable, not as a password-protected resource.
Limits & troubleshooting
Can I edit the store URLs behind a link later?
Store URLs are fixed once a link is created. If a destination changes, generate a fresh link — and for print runs, that is a good reason to keep your artwork pointing at a link you control rather than at a store URL that may move.
My link shows “this link doesn’t exist”. What went wrong?
The short code was almost certainly mistyped — codes are case-sensitive, and characters like 1/l and 0/O are easy to confuse when a link is copied by hand. Paste the full URL into the lookup page to confirm the code, or create a new link if the original was never saved.
Which store URLs should I paste in?
Use the public listing URL from each store: the play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=… address for Google Play, and the apps.apple.com/…/app/…/id… address for the App Store. Both are available from the Share option on the listing page, and either one on its own is enough to create a link.
Is there a limit on how many links I can create?
There is no published quota for ordinary use — create a separate link per campaign, per channel, or per printed asset if that helps you keep things tidy. Automated bulk generation is not what the service is for, and abusive or deceptive use is covered by the terms.
Still stuck?
If a link is not resolving the way you expect, the fastest check is to open it on the device in question and confirm which store you land on. The how-it-works page lays out the exact routing table, and the lookup page will confirm whether a short code exists at all.
